Your Induction - More than a Week!

Although you will be attending sessions as part of an induction week from Monday 20 September – Friday 24 September, we would like to emphasise that the process of welcoming you to the university and to our school, and getting you off to the best possible start as a Leeds student, is something we take seriously and we do not cram into just one week. Induction begins from the moment your place is confirmed and continues well into the first Semester and indeed the first year, when you will be settling into life as a student in our School and the University.

Before you arrive, you will:

  • Receive a welcome e-mail from the School.

  • Be informed of who your personal tutor is.

  • Get a full induction timetable of what is happening, and when.

During induction week, you will:

  • Attend a series of virtual interactive sessions, which will be staff-led and student-led

  • Meet key staff including the Head of School, Director of Student Education, programme leaders and the support staff.

  • Find out how to join the Food Science and Nutrition student buddy programme!

  • Have access to FAQ’s and an online anonymous Question and Answer board so you can ask a question whenever it springs to mind – even if it’s the middle of the night! (Answers given the next working day!).

  • Have the opportunity to meet as many Food Science and Nutrition new starters as possible virtually and as part of our optional face-to-face activity to grow your social network in the first few days.

  • Interact with students and staff through live online sessions so you get used to the online way of working.

Your School's Induction Timetable

Your School Induction timetable 2021 will be e-mailed to you ahead of induction week.

Commuter Students

For students who are living at home and commuting to campus, the LUU Commuters' Society is a community of like-minded students with an emphasis on wellbeing and inclusivity. They host a variety of events and have organised a commuters' lounge space which is scheduled to open in 2021/22. They will be posting updates on their social media pages (particularly their Facebook Group). For more details, please refer to their LUU page.

Mature and Part-Time Students

The Lifelong Learning Centre invites all mature and part-time undergraduates starting at the University in September to a welcome event. You can find full details including how to book a place here.

The Faculty of Environment is also hosting the Being Unconventional Welcome Sessions, both online and in-person, to welcome mature and part-time undergraduates during Induction Week. Details of the sessions and how to join them will be in your timetable. For any questions, please contact S.Renville@leeds.ac.uk.

The Faculty of Environment is launching a network for new and current mature students, who are defined as undergraduates aged 21 or older and taught postgraduates aged 25 or older on entry to the University. The network will be an opportunity to communicate with other mature students within your school, across the faculty and in other year groups, as well as an opportunity to attend sessions organised specifically for members of the network.

Mature students in the faculty will be contacted via email in September with details of how to join the network, or you can submit your details via this link to register your interest.

The Plus Programme

The Plus Programme is an extra support scheme available to students who have entered the University through specific access routes or meet certain criteria. For more information, please visit the Plus Programme website.
